Vogue’s Ultimate Fall (and Winter!) Boot Guide Is Here
Boot season is in full swing, and we’ve looked to the street style set for some inspiration when it comes to fall’s must-have footwear. We’ve gathered the season’s must-try trends from showgoers attending Fashion Week in Milan and Paris earlier this year. Many of the trends are on the classic and practical side compared with season’s past, which is certainly fitting for the unpredictable year we’re having. And the more practical the trend, the more it’s worth investing in a quality pair of fall boots.
This fall and winter, we’re leaning toward flat versions of the covetable knee-high boot and reconsidering over-the-knee silhouettes. There are also sleek, square-toe leather ankle boots to satisfy any minimalist, while chunkier, walkable platform boots are available for those who still crave a bit of heel height.
Below, find the 25 of the best pairs at every price, from ankle booties and platforms to slip-ons and lace-up boots.
The High Lows
The knee-high boot is back again this season, but this time in a more practical edition. Say so long (for now) to those with stiletto heels, and slip into an elegantly simple pair that’s comfortable and way more walkable thanks to nearly flat block heels.
Chunky Combats
The lace-up boot is a perennial favorite, but this fall, the combat boot is getting a major lift. Lug soles and chunky heels have replaced the original flat silhouettes. Perhaps it’s a riff on the hiking boots that were trending the past few winter seasons. But in any case, we certainly can’t complain about the practicality and instant edge these stomp-ready boots are giving us this fall and for the winter ahead.
Squared Off
While spending more time at home, many of us have welcomed a more minimalist approach to our style with open arms. When it comes to footwear, according to minimalists, the best fall boots come with square toes and an ankle height silhouette in neutral solid leathers from classic black to shades of brown.
Rain or Shine Rubber
Ahead of a season known for inclement weather, we’re happy to report one of fall’s boot trends is made from rubber. These aren’t your basic rain boots, though. From Bottega Veneta’s wavy pairs in an array of bright colors to Hunter’s elevated penny loafer meets boot version to the ever popular lug-soled Chelsea shaped out of water-resistant rubber, you don’t have to reserve these stylish boots just for bad weather.
Practical Platforms
Similar to spring’s popular platform sandal, the platform boot is making its rounds this fall. If you don’t want to sacrifice heel height or comfort this season, you don’t have to. Consider a pair of not-too-high and not-to-low platform leather boots for both dining outdoors or for festive gatherings.
The OTK Returns
The over-the-knee boot, another classic silhouette, is here to stay, thanks to brands like Tory Burch and The Row, seen here, as well as desirable iterations from Prada, Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta, Marni, and Loewe. These designer takes make the thigh-grazing boot pretty hard to resist this season.
