Vicente Fernández Released From ICU Three Months After Fall at Ranch
Retired singer and icon Vicente Fernández was released from the Intensive Care Unit Tuesday (October 27).
“We are pleased to notify you that Mr. Vicente Fernández is out of the Intensive Care Unit [and] in a hospital room where he will continue his treatment and rehabilitation,” a statement from his doctors read.
Doctors added that Fernández is “stable, more alert, and cooperative” during his rehabilitation therapy, but is being closely monitored because his breathing remains weak and requires intermittent support. They called his mobility “slow but progressive.”
“[Fernández] appreciates your prayers, displays of affection and concern for his health,” the statement ended
The 81-year-old Grammy Award winner was admitted to the hospital nearly three months ago when he fell at his property, Rancho de Los Tres Potrillos, in Guadalajara, Mexico.
At the time, doctors listed him in critical but stable condition after undergoing neck surgery on his cervical spine, which was injured during the fall. According to a Facebook post at the time, Fernández was said to be on a ventilator in the ICU.
On Wednesday, reporter Pati Chapoy was one of the first to wish Fernández well on his road to recovery. “The best news!” she tweeted after the doctor’s statement was released. “Long live #VicenteFernandez.”
More well wishes started coming in from others soon after.
