This Week, the Best Dressed Stars Were Ready for Spring
The intention behind Daylight Savings Time is simply to add a few extra hours of sunlight, but last week stars expanded the concept. As they prepared to “spring forward,” celebrities pulled out clothes that kept with the season’s lighthearted vibe and uplifting color palette. At Nickelodeon’s zany Kids Choice Awards, on social media, and in the front rows of Paris, the fashions were optimistic. Even street style received a boost thanks to the unseasonable warmth that swept across America’s East Coast, encouraging Katie Holmes—and everyone else—to ditch their winter wardrobe early.
At-home photoshoots allow stars to take risks they might have avoided on a traditional red carpet. For example, Priyanka Chopra is known for her glamorous style, but on Instagram, she went edgy in a crimson Balenciaga catsuit designed by Demna Gvasalia. Though Cardi B, Monica, and Kim Kardashian have already worn versions of the piece, Chopra amplified its sexiness by adding red lipstick and perfectly coiffed waves. She and Serena Williams turned catsuits into the week’s trending topic. The tennis legend turned her backyard into an editorial when she posed in Richard Quinn’s retro-inspired daisy print. A fun moment in a Delia’s-catalog-worthy piece, it was a fun throwback to the mid-90s.
Despite the threat of being slimed onstage, the style of the Kids Choice Awards was surprisingly grown-up. Normally, the anything-goes event can skew casual, but 2021’s attendees were committed to dressing up. Hailey Bieber arrived in a belly-baring Alessandra Rich bandeau top and matching pencil skirt. Silk-velvet and embellished with crystals, the blush-toned two-piece set was slinky and feminine. Whilst debuting her brand new platinum pixie, Tiffany Haddish went for Versace glamour in the brand’s crustacean-themed spring/summer 2021 collection, a choice that put the comedian’s sultry side on display. Still, the night’s best look belonged to Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, whose airy Stella McCartney gown was a burst of neon. Bright yellow with lace inserts and a flowing silhouette, the eye-catching piece was the slice of lemon that finished off an effervescent evening.
