This Is How Becky G Reacted to the ‘Flamin’ Hot’ Song Oscar Nomination

One of Becky G’s songs received an Academy Award nomination today (Jan. 23). The Mexican-American pop star celebrated the big Oscar news in emotional posts on social media.

In June 2023, Becky G released the song “The Fire Inside.” The empowering anthem was included on the soundtrack for the Flamin’ Hot movie, which was inspired by Richard Montañez’s story of helping invent the popular chips. Despite Frito-Lay calling Montañez’s involvement in creating Hot Cheetos an “urban legend,” Eva Longoria, who directed the movie, told Remezcla she was “absolutely” confident in his story.

Becky G’s reggaeton-infused “The Fire Inside” was penned by legendary songwriter Diane Warren. Throughout her career, she has written iconic songs for movies like Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from Armageddon, Faith Hill’s “There You’ll Be” from Pearl Harbor, and Gloria Estefan’s “Music of the Heart” from the film with the same name. All of those hits were nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards.

Now “The Fire Inside” is up for Best Original Song against the Barbie movie tracks “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken.” Jon Batiste’s “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony and “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon are also nominated in the category.

Though Best Original Song is only awarded to the songwriter, Becky G is happy to have had a hand in the success of “The Fire Inside.” She congratulated Warren on her nomination and Longoria for making the Flamin’ Hot movie. Usually, Best Original Song nominees are performed at the Oscars, so there’s also a chance that Becky G could sing it live at this year’s ceremony.

“When icons like Diane and Eva invite you to be a part of anything, YOU SAY YES OK????” Becky G wrote in a post on X. “Thank you for trusting me to bring part of this vision to life. There are no words to describe what this means para nuestra comunidad.”

The 96th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 10. Remezcla rounded up all of this year’s Latine nominees here
