These Artists’ Unique Work Benefiting El Museo del Barrio — See Them Here

In conjunction with Art for Change, a platform that “connects socially conscious art collectors with in-demand contemporary artists,” Latine artists Yvette Mayorga and Joel Gaitan’s stunning prints will be available in celebration of Our Heritage Month. Their work investigates “themes of belonging, immigration, identity, and culture.”

“We are honored to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month with these incredible works by Yvette Mayorga and Joel Gaitan,” Art for Change founder Jeanne Masel said in a statement. “These prints showcase Latinx culture in a unique way that is personal to each artist. They tell an important story and we are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase them in partnership with El Museo del Barrio, whose mission is one that I deeply admire and respect.”

The mission of El Museo del Barrio is to present and preserve the art and culture of Puerto Ricans and all Latin Americans in the United States. A portion of proceeds from the selling of Mayorga and Gaitan’s work will go back to El Museo del Barrio.

One of Mayorga’s prints is for her artwork entitled The Reenactment with Nike Air Jordans After the Last Supper where the artist adds her signature pink and frosted style to a piece that comments on luxury in a contemporary world.

One of Gaitan’s prints entitled Besos de Sueño shows a close-up of a hand-built, terracotta vessel. The work is described as “an expression of [Gaitan’s] personal longing to find a place in the world.”
