These Artists Covered Daddy Yankee & Wisin y Yandel Classics – & They’re Fire
On Oct. 4, Amazon Music revealed their newest Amazon Originals compilation, La Nueva Pack, to honor figureheads with reimagined tributes by newcomers. The first installment celebrates two reggaeton icons: Daddy Yankee and Wisin y Yandel.
The up-and-coming artists that covered Daddy Yankee include Puerto Rican artist ROBI (who covered “Tu Principe”), Spanish rapper PtaZeta (covering “Somos de Calle”), and Puerto Rican singer Cauty (covered “Machucando”). On the other hand, Wisin y Yandel’s reimagined covers were made by Puerto Rican artist Chris Andrew on “Llamé Pa Verte (Bailando Sexy),” Argentinian singer Alejo on “Sexy Movimiento,” and Puerto Rican singer EIX on “Dime Que Te Paso.”
This is the first edition of La Nueva Pack, part of Amazon Music’s Here’s To The Game Changers campaign. According to the press release, the gist is for newcomers to recreate some of the most important game-changing tracks in el movimiento history. The Here’s To The Game Changers campaign aims to commemorate the artists “whose music transformed the world, with new sounds and exclusive content honoring the pioneers who diversified the global music scene by changing the status quo,” per the press release.
What better way to inaugurate this new project than by celebrating two reggaeton pioneers actively cementing their legacy ahead of their retirement? Before this tribute, DY’s been honored with prestigious tokens such as the Legend Award at last month’s Hispanic Heritage Awards and a life-size statue dedicated to him in Santiago, Chile. Moreover, Wisin y Yandel were honored with this year’s Agents of Change Award at Premios Juventud.
Both Daddy Yankee and Wisin y Yandel are currently on the road with their farewell world tours. Daddy Yankee’s La Última Vuelta World Tour is currently in Quito, Colombia (Oct. 5). Wisin y Yandel’s La Ultima Mision Tour is set to continue in Uncasville, CT, tomorrow (Oct. 6).
