Taboo Struggled With His Identity Growing Up — So He Wrote a Kid’s Book on It
Colombian singer/songwriter Sebastián Yatra has unlocked a new career milestone. His song “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s newest animated film Encanto is currently No. 45 on the Top 50 U.S. Spotify chart, making it the only Spanish-language song on the chart. This also marks Yatra’s first song ever to enter the Top 50 in the U.S.
Yatra took to Instagram stories to celebrate this achievement, posting a screenshot of the Top 50 USA Spotify Charts, writing #DosOruguitas and #DisneyEncanto.
If chart placement and fan reaction are any indicators, there is no doubt that “Dos Oruguitas” has impacted its listeners through its rich storytelling and smooth guitar-driven melody. Along with praising the movie and thirsting after Tío Bruno, listeners have taken to social media to praise “Dos Oruguitas,” which has quickly become a favorite tear-jerker.
Are we all collectively bawling over this song? Another fan remarks on the all-too-common.
No, seriously, who hurt us?
“Dos Oruguitas” is currently nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Song in a Motion Picture and Critics Choice Award for “Best Song.” The track has also been added to the shortlist for the 2022 Oscars, a rarity in a category that is usually dominated by English-sung songs—especially for a Disney song. Hopefully, the Academy will honor this song as it deserves in award season!
Though having only been released in November of 2021, Encanto has quickly become a modern classic amongst Disney’s animated films. The soundtrack has over 10 million streams on Spotify, with the entire Encanto soundtrack pulling in one hundred million streams to date. The soundtrack is even charting on Billboard. Moreover, Yatra is dropping “Amor Pasajero” tonight, the first single off his upcoming album Dharma dropping Jan. 28.
