Shakira & Gerard Piqué Confirm Split After 11 Years Together
After much speculation — and a meme frenzy – the news has been confirmed: Shakira and Gerard Piqué have split after 11 years together. According to People, the two confirmed the news via a joint statement from the singer’s publicist Saturday (June 4).
“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the couple stated. “We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”
This news comes after rumors circulated that the couple was splitting up after allegations of infidelity. It was also reported that the couple was currently living separately. The reason behind their split has not been confirmed.
Shakira and Piqué share two kids: sons Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.
Fans are already sharing their sentiments towards the news. Many are shocked at the split, with one Twitter user writing, “I really thought they were the forever -real deal..wow..I am..shocked…”
Other fans have already started picturing Shakira with a new match after Chris Evans (Avengers: Endgame) started following her on Instagram. That’s not all. Along with Evans, footage from the 2015 New York premiere of the film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. went viral, which featured British actor Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) reacting favorably to someone on the red carpet, which he believed was Shakira. It seems it wasn’t actually Shakira, but his double (maybe triple?)-take, wide eyes, and smile from Cavill had fans online already playing matchmaker with her and the D.C. star.
While the rest of the world plays online matchmaker, Shakira has much to keep her busy at the moment as Dancing With Myself recently aired on NBC, to which she is a host. She also recently announced that she has a new album on the way, due later this year.
