The site has revealed our top 10 most-searched-for celebrity outfits of the year

Although it may feel like we have been stuck inside for all of 2020, there was a time back in January and February when celebrities could go out and enjoy large social gatherings. There was the Grammys (yes, that happened this year) and the Superbowl (again, this year) and during that distant time, by extension, we could gawk at said celebrities and their looks. And gawk we did.

Naturally, this gawking led to searching – whether for the designer dressing them, or simply for more photos to ogle. That searching has now been configured by Google in its annual Year In Search report, revealing the most searched for celebrity style moments of the past 12 months.

Making an appearance on the list was Lil Nas X and his bright pink S&M-inspired Versace cowboy suit, which he wore to the Grammy’s earlier this year. Another Grammy look which made the list was Billie Eilish and her head-to-toe black and green Gucci ensemble, finished off with a Gucci mask (what did she know in January that we didn’t?).

Lizzo also featured on the report for an outfit she wore courtside to a Lakers game back in December 2019. Despite the outfit being seemingly lowkey – a simple black t-shirt dress – the look sparked an online debate which continued into 2020. Critics claimed the look was too risky for a basketball game, due to a cut-out detail to the back that showed off Lizzo’s thong. Lizzo’s response to the backlash? “If you really, really don’t like my ass, you can kiss it.”

Elsewhere, the list was rounded off by none other than Harry Styles, who also stirred up an online debate for his recent Vogue cover, on which he wore a ruffled blue Gucci gown. Although 2020 may seem like the longest year ever, it seems it hasn’t been long enough for us to get over our fear of women over a certain size wearing thongs and men ever-so-slightly blurring the gender lines! Alas.

Other celebrities to feature on the list were J.Lo and Shakira for their Superbowl halftime show looks, Travis Scott dressed as batman, Melania Trump, and Miley Cyrus’s younger sister Noah, who topped the list as the most searched for celebrity style of the year. Who knew?

Alongside style searches, Google also revealed our most searched for topics overall which, unsurprisingly, included coronavirus, the US presidential election, and maybe the most unsurprising of them all: the definition of “WAP”.
