Nathy Peluso Wows in NPR Tiny Desk Performance
Amid promoting her sophomore album GRASA, Nathy Peluso made a notable visit to NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C., for an intimate Tiny Desk performance. This session highlighted her versatility and emotional depth, leaving a significant impact on viewers.
Wearing an oversized black tee and with her long, straight hair flowing, Peluso began the performance by expressing her excitement and gratitude. “We’re fulfilling another dream today with these wonderful people by my side,” she announced. “Thank you, everyone, for coming. We’re going to start with a magical song that’s been with me since I wrote it. Enjoy, have fun!”
Peluso kicked off the nearly 19-minute set with “Buenos Aires“, the R&B-infused tune from 2020 that earned her a Latin Grammy nomination and brought her into the spotlight. With eight musicians and two vocalists by her side, Peluso delivered a powerful mix of rap and smooth vocals, emphasizing themes of self-love and empowerment in songs like “Aprender a Amar” and “Legendario.”
Her deep connection to the music and her audience was clear. “My new album has gems from the heart, from deep within, from love, for you that I made with that desire to make you emotional,” Peluso shared. “In the end, that’s what it’s all about.” Her sincerity and passion shone through as she shared the stories behind her songs and her journey.
A standout moment was her performance of “Envidia”, accompanied solely by piano. The song narrates the story of a woman who pursues her dreams and ignores negativity. It’s a powerful message for those striving to overcome obstacles. Peluso’s raw and emotional delivery connected deeply with the audience.
Peluso wrapped up her set with the funky, jazz-inspired “Remedio”, ending on an uplifting note. “Thank you, we feel blessed. May you be happy, listen to ‘Grasa,’ and long live music!” she said. This performance was a testament to her artistry and the heartfelt messages she conveys through her music.
Earlier this year, the Argentine-born, Spanish-raised singer-songwriter discussed her new album with Billboard. Her Tiny Desk performance echoed the album’s core themes. “There is a very important message in the album which is ‘Aprender a Amarse’ (learn to love yourself), which is something we all deserve, because at the end of the day, you have to be your best friend and best companion,” she explained. “For that, you have to be brave and face things that are very difficult. [I wanted to] shed a little light and energy so that people who maybe don’t find that strength in their daily lives, maybe they can put on some music and feel encouraged. Because music has saved me many times.”
Peluso’s Tiny Desk performance showcased not only her musical talent but also her dedication to spreading positive messages through her art. Her blend of genres and powerful performances have cemented her status as a unique and influential artist. As she continues to promote GRASA, fans can look forward to more inspiring music from Nathy Peluso.
