Maná To Be Honored With Icon Award at 2021 Billboard Latin Awards

Billboard and Telemundo have made official what most of us already know; Maná is iconic. The rock band is to be honored with the Billboard Icon Award. Maná is made up of Fher Olvera, Alex González, Sergio Vallín, and Juan Calleros. Together, they have been making their mark on music since the mid-’80s.

The 2021 Billboard Latin Awards will not only honor Maná with the biggest award of the night, but they will also host a performance from the group. Maná has announced they will be playing their new single “El Reloj Cuću,” a remake of their classic hit that will include 12-year old La Voz Kids 2021 México finalist Mabel on vocals.

On why Billboard is honoring the newly minted icons, the publication said: “having carved out a career that has not only remained relevant through time but has also made them the most distinguished band in their genre, celebrated globally for achieving both musical and commercial success.”

Part of that success includes over 40-million albums sold across the globe, sold-out venues worldwide, four Grammys, and nine Latin Grammys. Their relationship with Billboard is just as impressive with 24 Billboard Latin Music Awards to their credit. This year, they are nominated once again for the 2021 pop artists of the year, duo or group. Maná is also the first Spanish-language rock group to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On the social side, Maná founded the Selva Negra Ecological Foundation. In the 25-years they have been around their focus has been on social development, conservation, and other environmental issues. Just this last year, they lent their support to President Joe Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci by helping to get more of the Latine population in the US vaccinated.

Later, during Billboard Latin Music week, Maná’s frontman will be joined once again by Mabel. Together, they will host the Inside the Soul of the Artist panel which will focus on the creative process for artists. The Billboard Latin Music week is being hosted in Miami from September 20-24.

As for the actual Billboard Latin Music Awards, they are Thursday, September 23 at 8 p.m. ET. They will air on Telemundo.
