Latine Artists Nominated at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards

The nominations for the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) were revealed today, October 8, highlighting several Latine artists among this year’s top contenders. Anitta and Peso Pluma lead the Latine nominees, each securing multiple nominations, including recognition for their hit collaboration “Bellakeo.”

Anitta and Peso Pluma are both nominated in the highly competitive Best Collaboration category, where they face off against other major acts, such as Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, Lisa and Rosalía, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift and Post Malone. Beyond this category, Anitta has also earned a spot in the Biggest Fans category, which celebrates artists with the most devoted fan bases. Another prominent Latine nominee is Cuban-Mexican singer Camila Cabello, the sole Latina represented in the Best Pop category.

Both Anitta and Peso Pluma are also in the running for Best Latin, competing against some of the biggest names in the Latine music scene. Bad Bunny, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, and Shakira round out the list of nominees in this category. The inclusion of these artists reflects the EMAs’ growing recognition of Latine talent on the global stage, particularly in mainstream categories.

The MTV EMAs have long been celebrated for their regional categories, which provide a platform for more localized talent. In the Best Latin American North Act category, Mexican artists dominate the nominations. Pop star Danna, corridos tumbados pioneer Natanael Cano, and rising star Gabito Ballesteros are all nominated, along with reggaeton trailblazers El Malilla and Yeri Mua, who are both first-time MTV EMA nominees.

In the Best Caribbean Act category, the spotlight is on Puerto Rican artists, with Young Miko, Myke Towers, Yovngchimi, Luar La L, and Eladio Carrión all competing for the award. Colombia takes center stage in the Best Latin America Central Act category, where Manuel Turizo, Sofia Castro, Blessd, Beéle, and Kapo are nominated. Meanwhile, Argentina shines in the Best Latin America South Act category, with nominees including Emilia, Maria Becerra, Trueno, Luck Ra, and Dillom.

Brazilian artists are well-represented in the Best Brazilian Act category, which features a diverse group of talents: Pabllo Vittar, Luísa Sonza, Matuê, Jão, and Pedro Sampaio.

The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards will be held on November 10 at Co-op Live in Manchester. Last year’s telecast was canceled due to the Israel-Palestine conflict, but the event is expected to return with a celebration of global music and culture. Taylor Swift leads all nominees with seven nominations, making her the most-nominated artist this year.

With a diverse and talented group of Latine artists among the nominees, this year’s EMAs promise to highlight the continued impact of Latine music on the global stage.
