The launch of a new chapter for Lacoste Woman comes paired with a short film starring Venus Williams, Ella Mai, and Garance Marillier

Since its early days, Lacoste has recognised the need for clothes that support movement. Back in the 1920s, French tennis champion René Lacoste was stripping the sleeves off of his button-down shirts to allow for a greater range of motion on the court, pioneering what we now know as Lacoste’s iconic signature: the polo.

Today – for those of us who aren’t pro-athletes – the Lacoste Active AW22 collection goes further with its sportswear that looks good and an offering of high function-meets-high fashion clothes that can carry you from the tube to the office via the track, the tennis court, and everywhere in between.

“Our wardrobes are less and less categorised by a single activity,” explains Lacoste’s creative director, Louise Trotter. “We need clothes that take us through our life from beginning of the day to the end – liberating and freeing us to live a full and active life.”

With that ethos front and centre, the AW22 collection boasts versatile silhouettes and technical constructions, encouraging effortless movement between sport and everyday living, without risking style. Pleated mini-skirts, utility-style sports jackets, and easy-to-layer sports bras combine with black and white bucket hats, oversized sunglasses, and nylon shoulder bags.

To help launch Lacoste Active AW22, the label teamed up with Dazed to create a short film showcasing the collection and its ambassadors; Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Ella Mai, American athlete Venus Williams, and French actor Garance Marillier. In it, we see each changemaker answers playful “this or that” questions, telling their stories and highlighting their unique similarities and differences.

Captured on-the-go around the city by Netti Hurley, Mai shows off a matching green workout tank and leggings, green trench, and sunglasses; Williams is lensed crossing the street in a two-toned pink tracksuit and yellow zip-up top, and Marillier wears white track pants, a yellow-and-white striped button-down patched with Lacoste’s iconic crocodile logo, and a green baseball cap.

Joining together – while providing glimpses into their individual worlds – the ambassadors celebrate how they cross paths by wearing the collection their own way, marking a fresh chapter for the Lacoste Woman moving forward.
