Kim Kardashian West and Michele Lamy might seem like an unlikely set of friends, but ever since they first met back in 2013, the two have formed a close, supportive friendship. Bringing them together in celebration of just that is AnOther, which invited the two very different icons to cover its AW20 issue, which lands this week.
Shot in lockdown in the middle of the coronavirus lockdown, the two switched clothes – with KKW dressing up in pieces from Lamy’s HUNROD label, and Lamy slipping into some SKIMS – before Instagram husbands Kanye West and Rick Owens got behind the camera to capture their portraits (with a little remote help from Paul Kooiker, who conceived and directed the whole thing).
The resulting images depict Kardashian West sitting pensively or looking intently down the lens, while Lamy spins and whirls around so much the photos become abstract and full of movement. An accompanying feature, meanwhile, sees writer Stefan Kalmar delving into contemporary reality, image, fame, social media, and more (plus there’s a cute titbit from one of KKW and Lamy’s text convos ahead of the shoot).
With further AW20 covers featuring Adut Akech, Anok Yai, MJ Harper, and Susie Cave, inside sees Katie Shillingford and Craig McDean celebrate a new gen of young designers, editor-in-chief Susannah Frankel interview John Galliano, and Black Lives Matter Canada co-founder Janaya Future Khan in conversation with Janelle Monáe, as lensed by Collier Schorr.
