Karol G & Peso Pluma Receive More 2023 MTV VMAs Nominations
Today (Sep. 1), new categories were announced for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Karol G, Peso Pluma, and Ice Spice have even more chances to win their first Moon Person.
When the first round of nominations was announced last month, Peso Pluma had two for Best New Artist and Best Latin for “Ella Baila Sola” with Eslabon Armado. Now, the MTV VMAs have revealed the nominations for Song of the Summer, and the Mexican superstar is nominated again. He is up for the “La Bebe” remix with Mexican reggaeton star Yng Lvcas. This marks Yng Lvcas’ first-ever VMA nomination. The collaboration was a big hit this past year when it reached No. 2 on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart.
Thanks to the Song of the Summer reveal, Ice Spice now has two additional nominations. The Dominican-American star has been nominated twice for “Barbie World” with Nicki Minaj and Aqua and the “Karma” remix with Taylor Swift. Ice Spice faces Peso Pluma in the Best New Artist category. She was also previously nominated for Push Performance of the Year for “Princess Diana.”
The MTV VMAs also announced the nominees for Show of the Summer. Karol G was nominated for her Mañana Será Bonito Tour. The Colombian superstar now has four nominations in total this year. She is also up for the all-women Artist of the Year category, Best Collaboration, and Best Latin for “TQG” alongside Shakira. Karol G will be performing as well.
Shakira will be honored with the MTV Video Vanguard Award. She will also perform, and there’s hope that Karol G or Beyoncé will join her. Another Latine performer added to the line-up this week was Brazilian superstar Anitta. Fans can now vote for their favorite artists. The 2023 MTV VMAs will air live from New Jersey on Sep. 12.
