Jenna Ortega Announced As ‘Saturday Night Live’ Host
Jenna Ortega will soon be on her way to New York City to host Saturday Night Live. The Wednesday star reacted to the news online after SNL posted the lineup for its next three episodes. “!!!! See you then,” Ortega wrote.
Ortega will debut as host on the March 11 episode with English pop-rock band The 1975 as musical guests.
Jenna Ortega got her start in Hollywood at the age of nine. During the 20-year-old star’s years as a child actor, she appeared in several TV series, including Jane the Virgin and Disney’s Stuck in the Middle. Her stock rose when she landed a leading role in the second season of Netflix’s You and then skyrocketed when she starred in the reboot of the Scream franchise and on the hit Netflix series Wednesday.
For SNL, Ortega’s appearance on the show will mark the third time in the last six episodes that a Latine celebrity has been tapped to host during its 48th season. Aubrey Plaza hosted on January 21, and Pedro Pascal hosted on February 4.
Some of Ortega’s celebrity friends showed their support on Instagram when Ortega revealed her upcoming gig. Fellow Scream star Melissa Barrera wrote, “I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!” while Jennifer Garner, who played Ortega’s mom in the 2021 comedy Yes Day, reacted with, “JENNNNNA!!!!” Even the official page for Wednesday made sure to comment on the big news by posting two black heart emojis.
Fans also shared their excitement on social media, with one person tweeting, “Never GENUINELY watched saturday night live but anything for jenna ortega.”
Ortega will next be seen in Scream VI, the sixth installment of the Scream horror film franchise. The slasher sequel hits theaters on March 10, 2023.
