J Balvin Is Set To Release Two Collaborations With Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran and J Balvin — two names you wouldn’t think to hear in the same sentence. So after meeting at a gym in New York City last year, we’ll be having them on the same record this week. Balvin is releasing two new songs and their music videos in collaboration with the English singer-songwriter this Thursday, March 24.
The “Mi Gente” singer took to Instagram to share the names of his two new tracks, “Sigue” and “Forever My Love.” Balvin explained that while he intended these songs to remain in the world of reggaetón, Sheeran also managed to invite him into his world.
Last year, Remezcla reported this potential meeting of the minds, when Balvin posted a picture of him and Sheeran with the caption: “Friendship first, business after, the person guides the right vibe. Love Ed Sheeran.” It turns out we were right.
This isn’t the first time we’re seeing such a blend of genres in collaborations between some of the world’s biggest names in music. However, it will be interesting to see what a combination between Sheeran’s love ballads and Balvin’s party anthems will sound like. In any case, Balvin’s fans shared their excitement via Twitter, saying they’re “collapsing” due to how epic this will be.
Not only are fans looking forward to Thursday, but Sheeran is, too. He posted two images on Twitter, captioning them, “How it started vs how it’s going.” The brotherly love is evident, seeing as Sheeran recalls recognizing Balvin’s voice in the gym and saying hello in the morning, which prompted this unique collaboration.
Sheeran also shared that he had to learn Spanish, saying it was a “proper challenge,” but had tons of fun regardless. This departure from Sheeran’s traditional folk-pop appears to be a pleasant distraction from the tumultuous copyright case in Sheeran’s life. The Grammy-winning artist is currently awaiting the verdict of an 11-day trial over his hit, “Shape of You,” in which he was accused of stealing parts of his song from another artist.
