Last month, Larry David – who famously hates fashion so much that he refused to be styled for the cover of GQ – made a glamorous appearance at New York Fashion Week. Sitting frow, obvs, the Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator was photographed having the time of his life: AKA plugging his ears and resting his head in his hands.
Some (me) speculated that he was talking on the phone, or filming for the forthcoming new season of Curb. Now, however, in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, David has debunked these theories, instead offering a simple explanation as to why he was covering his ears. “It was very noisy,” he said.
“Let me explain how I wound up there,” David continued. “My friend’s fiance is a great fashion designer, her name is STAUD (Sarah Staudinger, the founder of the LA-based brand), she’s a wonderful gal. He said to me that my presence would be helpful. I said, ‘My presence has never been helpful anywhere. Wherever I am, it’s wrong. Everything is better if I’m not there. Believe me’. So I showed up. But, you know, me and a fashion show, it’s a little out of place. It was very loud music and that’s why I was covering my ears.”
Disappointingly, the writer and actor offered no explanation as to why, two days after the Fashion Week incident, he was spotted lunching with Timothée Chalamet. The pair were papped sipping espresso martinis and sharing animated stories, as they dined al fresco in NYC. You can look back at Dazed’s speculation about WTF they talked about here.
In the meantime, HBO has dropped the first trailer for season 11 of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is set to premiere on October 24. The new cast includes regulars Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, J.B. Smoove, Ted Danson, and Richard Lewis, while season 10 stars Jon Hamm and Vince Vaughn are also set to return, alongside newcomers Seth Rogen, Woody Harrelson, Lucy Liu, Kaley Cuoco, Bill Hader, and more.
