Ice Spice Added to the Governors Ball’s 2023 Lineup

This year’s Governors Ball Music Festival just got more exciting. On Mar. 23, the festival announced their latest addition to their Friday (Jun. 9) lineup: the rising half-Dominican and Bronx native, Ice Spice. The Governors Ball is set to take place on Jun. 9 to11 at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, NY.

“From the Bronx to the Gov Ball stage @icespice is here on Fri June 9?,” the festival’s social media account announced. The first photo shows Ice Spice in an orange wardrobe, matching her now signature orange-colored curls. A second photo shows the Statue of Liberty decorated with sunglasses and the rising rapper’s animated-like silver chain that she usually rocks during her live appearances.

Ice Spice will now join the more than 60 artists playing at the festival, which includes other Latine acts like Omar Apollo, Sabrina Claudio, and Remezcla’s newest cover star Eladio Carrión. Other notable talent includes Lizzo, Odesza, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X. This year, the festival has only one more Latine act than last year. In 2022, only Kid Cudi, Becky G, and Black Pumas were chosen to represent our community at the massive festival.

Regardless of the lack of diversity outcome, social media users are excited about Ice Spice’s upcoming performance. A Twitter user wrote: “i wasn’t going to buy tickets so gov ball but now i really want to…ice spice and lizzo??? i am convinced.” Another Twitter user mirrored the same feeling: “Ice spice at gov ball? SAY F*CKING LESS.”

The emerging rap star is having an exciting year with the release of her debut EP Like..? Following the EP, her catchy collaboration with PinkPantheress on “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2” earned both artists their first No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart.

Besides this slot at the Governors Ball Music Festival, Ice Spice also performed at this year’s Rolling Loud California 2023, where she sang “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2” for the first time. Will she perform the hit for the first time live with PinkPantheress at Governors Ball Music Festival? We’ll keep an eye out.
