Humbe’s Artistic Rebirth and the Making of Armagedón
Rising Mexican artist Humbe has unveiled his latest album, Armagedón, marking a pivotal moment in his career. After parting ways with Sony and completing a sold-out tour across Latin America, the 24-year-old singer-songwriter from Monterrey, Nuevo León, is embracing his independence and exploring a more experimental, sensual approach to pop music.
Known for his genre-bending style, Humbe seamlessly blends pop, R&B, and música mexicana. His breakthrough came with Entropía in 2021, earning him a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Since then, his sound has evolved, as seen in his 2022 album Esencia. With Armagedón, he ventures into uncharted territory, exploring themes of destruction, reconstruction, love, and intimacy.
“The album reflects a new chapter in my life, one that I didn’t have the confidence to share before,” Humbe says. Songs like “Sagitario A*” and “Astros ⋆ ★ ˚。⋆” showcase his growth, both as an artist and a person, weaving sensuality into his signature sentimental pop. His single “Kintsugi,” an Afrobeats-inspired track that has amassed over 55 million Spotify streams, is a testament to his ability to connect deeply with his audience.
Humbe’s music is also a medium for challenging cultural norms. With tracks like “Te Lo Prometo” and “Patadas de Ahogado,” he confronts machismo in Mexican culture, advocating for emotional openness among men. “I believe emotions are sacred. Crying isn’t a flaw—it’s human,” he says, emphasizing the importance of mental and spiritual health.
One of his most personal songs, “Fantasmas,” written as a tribute to his late grandfather, gained viral attention on TikTok and became a poignant moment during his live shows. Fans held up photos of their deceased loved ones while he performed the haunting ballad, creating an emotional connection that transcended music.
Armagedón is not just an album but a declaration of artistic freedom. Its cover art, depicting an asteroid hitting Earth, symbolizes renewal and rebirth—a theme echoed in the album’s bold exploration of human experiences.
Currently planning a tour for Armagedón, Humbe is setting his sights on the U.S., determined to bring his evolving artistry to a wider audience. “Seeing people cry at my concerts is an achievement. That’s how I know I’ve touched their hearts,” he reflects. For Humbe, Armagedón isn’t just a milestone; it’s a testament to his journey as an artist unafraid to take risks.
