Grupo Firme Makes History at Mexico City’s GNP Seguros Stadium

On Friday night (July 17), Grupo Firme delivered the first of two electrifying performances at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City. This milestone performance set a new record for a regional Mexican artist at the iconic venue, formerly known as Foro Sol. The popular Tijuana-based group, which already held the record with nine concerts, will increase their total to 11 performances since their debut at the stadium on March 24, 2022.

These shows are a cornerstone of the band’s La Última Peda Tour, a massive trek that has taken them across Mexico, Central America, and South America. Despite facing administrative challenges regarding U.S. visas that forced the cancellation of their appearance at La Onda Fest in California, the band has found immense success in international markets.

Global Expansion and Continued Success

“Faced with a lack of visas to go to the U.S., we explored other possibilities and the result has been magnificent — sold-out shows wherever we’ve performed,” the band’s manager, Isael Gutiérrez, tells Billboard Español. With 13 No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart, including “El Amor de su Vida” and “Cabrón y Medio,” the group is now setting its sights on Europe. Their upcoming tour in Spain is already seeing high demand, with 80% of tickets sold months in advance.

A Night of Unforgettable Moments

The concert at GNP Seguros Stadium was a visual and auditory spectacle. Lead vocalist Eduin Caz led the group through a setlist of approximately 45 songs, featuring elaborate choreography and costumes inspired by Aztec royalty. The night was further elevated by special guests, including Moy Bobadilla and established stars like Luis Alfonso Partida “El Yaki,” Luis Ángel “El Flaco,” and Joss Favela. A particularly nostalgic highlight occurred when the band was joined by Los Ángeles de Charly, allowing Caz to showcase his versatility by performing classic romantic cumbias.

  • Participation From “El Yaki”: The audience erupted as Luis Alfonso Partida “El Yaki” joined Eduin Caz for a powerful rendition of their hit collaboration, “Dile a Tu Orgullo.”
  • “Mi Último Deseo” With “El Flaco”: Luis Ángel “El Flaco” took the stage to perform “Mi Último Deseo,” leading to a massive sing-along with over 60,000 fans.
  • Joss Favela and the Double “Benefit”: Songwriter Joss Favela joined the group for an acoustic version of “El Beneficio de la Duda,” a track that has dominated the charts with over 430 million streams.
  • An Aztec Culture Celebration: The band honored Mexican heritage with a folkloric dance troupe and traditional attire during their performance of “Alégale al Umpire.”
  • Cumbia With Los Ángeles de Charly: The inclusion of Los Ángeles de Charly brought a nostalgic, high-energy cumbia segment to the night, delighting the crowd with classics like “Me Volví a Acordar de Ti.”
