The menswear edition of SS23 has literally just come to a close but the whiplash of the fashion calendar has yanked AW22 back into view – thanks to a slew of big budget campaigns fronted mostly by Bella Hadid. It was an odd season, wherein the final vestiges of Y2K mania gave way to berserk and nonsense dressing – all pregnant bellies, glass-blown bags, hunched-over backs, and presbetarian hoods. As Shakespeare said…. beware the runways of March… or something like that.
With the ensuing campaigns, designers have the chance to double-down on all that messaging, plastering its wares across billboards and newsfeeds. There’s Prada’s esoteric diptychs, where Hunter Schafer is juxtaposed with a nobbly, chewed-up pencil; there’s Moschino’s Bedknobs and Broomsticks redux; and Vivienne Westwood, who stands hand-in-hand with Courtney Love on a cutting room table. But, more than anything, this season’s imagery proves that it’s sex that sells, with a topless Bella Hadid wrapped around a buffed-up Balenciaga model. Above, we round-up the best of the rest of the AW22 campaigns, as and when they drop.
