Ella Emhoff, ‘First Daughter of Bushwick,’ Has Signed a Modeling Contract With IMG

Look out, because there’s a newly booked-and-busy fashion phenom in town. Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, recently signed a modeling contract with IMG, the New York Times reported on Thursday.

“Ella communicates this moment in time. There’s a cheekiness and a joy she exudes,” IMG Models president Ivan Bart told the Times, and it’s easy to see what he means. Emhoff’s inauguration dress—which was designed by Batsheva Hay—perfectly married her signature Brooklyn quirk with the solemnity of the occasion, and her jewel-encrusted Miu Miu coat made it clear that she wouldn’t be hewing to any outdated notions of what a White House–adjacent young woman should dress like.

Emhoff has earned the honorific “First Daughter of Bushwick” in part because of her extremely Gen-Z fondness for knitting and stick-and-poke tattoos. She clearly has no interest in meeting the Beltway status quo when it comes to fashion, telling Vogue, “Amongst Dr. Biden and Kamala and Meena [Harris] and me, I guess there is kind of some anticipation about what we’re going to put out there in terms of fashion.”

Emhoff isn’t the only Inauguration Day standout to land a high-profile modeling contract. Poet Amanda Gorman, who stole the show with her moving recitation and eye-catching Prada ensemble, also signed with IMG earlier this week. Rest assured, we’ll be waiting anxiously for both Gorman and Emhoff’s respective runway debuts (as we try to nab the latest drop of Emhoff’s signature knitwear in the meantime).
