Cardi B Becomes First Female Rapper With Multiple Diamond Tracks

As the song from the 1953 film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes goes, “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” For Cardi B, those diamonds are certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which recently announced that the “WAP” artist has become the first female rapper to go diamond with multiple songs.

Cardi’s 2018 collaboration with Maroon 5 on the song “Girls Like You” was certified diamond earlier this week when it reached 10 million sales in the U.S. The song, which is from Maroon 5’s 2017 album Red Pill Blues, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Last month, it ranked No. 30 on Billboard’s Greatest Hot 100 Hits of All Time.

“Wow I got two Diamond records!” Cardi posted on Twitter. “Thank you sooo much @maroon5 for including me on this song and this is the song I cater to my daughter every time I perform it. I’m forever grateful.”

Cardi’s first song to reach diamond status was 2017’s single “Bodak Yellow” from her debut solo album Invasion of Privacy.

Cardi’s fans were more than impressed with her milestone.

Some even predicted that Cardi’s not done getting those diamonds. What song is next?

Although Cardi B is the first female rapper to reach Diamond status at least twice, she isn’t the only female musician to do it. She joins Katy Perry and Lady Gaga as only the third woman to earn more than one diamond single. Looks like she’s in good company.
