BTS to Visit Mexico’s National Palace Ahead of Mexico City Concerts
President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico has confirmed that the global K-pop phenomenon BTS will visit the National Palace on Wednesday (May 6). The meeting, scheduled to take place at the official presidential residence in Mexico City, serves as a prelude to the group’s highly anticipated concert series in the capital.
During her morning press conference, President Sheinbaum expressed her admiration for the group, highlighting the positive impact of their music. “This is for the youth,” she stated. “They have something very beautiful: What they sing always conveys messages of friendship, of peace — very humanistic messages — and of love.”
The visit is expected to draw significant attention, as the president confirmed that a balcony at the National Palace, which overlooks the historic Zócalo, will be opened to allow the members—RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook—to greet their dedicated fanbase, known as ARMY.
This diplomatic and cultural engagement precedes the group’s three-night residency at the GNP Seguros Stadium, scheduled for May 7, May 9, and May 10. The concerts, promoted by Ocesa, have already achieved sold-out status, with over 136,000 tickets distributed to fans.
The excitement surrounding the ARIRANG World Tour in Mexico has been substantial. President Sheinbaum previously engaged in discussions with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to facilitate the tour’s expansion into the region. Her administration has also been vocal about ensuring transparency in the ticketing process following widespread public concern over high demand and secondary market pricing.
BTS’ return to Mexico marks a significant milestone, as the group has not performed in the country since 2017. The economic impact of these shows is projected to be substantial, with the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico City estimating a contribution of approximately $107.5 million USD to the local economy.
