Bad Bunny, J Balvin & Karol G Lead American Music Awards’ Latin Categories
Award season continues with the American Music Awards, as does Bad Bunny’s reign. The Puerto Rican superstar leads the nominees in the Latin categories for the AMAs.
The American Music Awards are a fan-voted music awards show. Outside of a few general categories, the nominations are broken by genre. Bad Bunny isn’t nominated in any of the general categories, but he’s up for all the Latin music categories that he’s eligible for.
For Favorite Male Artist – Latin, Bad Bunny faces off against fellow Boricua artist Ozuna and his frequent Colombian collaborator J Balvin. In the Favorite Album – Latin category, Benito is nominated twice for both albums he released this year: YHLQMDLG and Las Que No Iban A Salir. His only competition is Puerto Rican rapper Anuel AA’s Emmanuel album.
In the Favorite Female Artist – Latin category, Colombian reggaetonera Karol G faces Mexican-American pop star Becky G and interestingly Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía. Karol G is the only woman up for Favorite Song – Latin for the smash hit “Tusa” featuring hip-hop star Nicki Minaj. They face competition from another one of this year’s big hits, the Black Eyed Peas’ “Ritmo (Bad Boys For Life)” with J Balvin, and Bad Bunny’s YHLQMDLG standout “Vete.”
According to the American Music Awards website, the Latin music categories are “presented by” Cheetos. Could these be linked to Bad Bunny’s potential partnership with the Frito-Lay brand? The AMAs will air live on Nov. 22 on ABC.
