Daddy Yankee and his longtime wife, Mireddys González, announced they were getting divorced on Dec. 2, 2024. The beloved Puerto Rican couple would have celebrated their 30th anniversary this year.
In a heartfelt statement — and his only declarations — the former reggaetón artist born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez expressed: “With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life,” he said in a statement on his Instagram Stories. “After more than two decades of marriage and after many months of trying to save my marriage, which my wife and I share, today my lawyers respond to the divorce petition received by Mireddys.”
He continued to note that his faith in Christ was his refuge during this difficult time. “It is time to accept and continue. Protect my stability, my children and everything built over so many years. I deeply thank those who have accompanied us during this journey and I ask that you respect our privacy in this process. I know that this news may surprise many,” he wrote.
Together since they were 17, they have two grown children, Jesaaelys and Jeremy. The former is a popular make up artist and the latter is an aspiring music producer. An entrepreneur in her own right, González was also manager of Yankee and CEO of his label, El Cartel Records. She’s widely known to wield broad influence over Yankee’s music career.

2024 – DY Files Injunctions
On Dec. 17, Ayala filed two legal motions seeking an injunction against González, alleging she withdrew $80 million from the bank account of his El Cartel Records “without authorization,” and $20 million from the bank account of another of his music companies, Los Cangris, according to court documents obtained by Billboard. The filing by the reggaetón hitmaker was made in court in San Juan against González, her sister Ayeicha González Castellanos and El Cartel Records, a company founded by Yankee where González allegedly serves as CEO and González Castellanos serves as secretary/treasurer.

2024 – Partial Agreement
Just days after the injunction, the former artist and his then-estranged wife reached a partial agreement in their first court hearing on Dec. 20 over his allegations. Following private negotiations, both parties agreed that Ayala will regain the presidency of his companies El Cartel Records and Los Cangris, it was announced during the hearing. It was also established that for a period of 30 days — while a plan for the management of the companies is developed — $75 million of the corporate accounts will remain untouchable. The remaining money is allowed to be used with the condition that both parties approve any transaction over $100,000.
“I have always respected Mrs. Gonzalez, and I ask that you respect her as well,” he briefly told the press following the hearing. “It was a very harmonious process. You know the process of faith that I am in. It’s the best thing for the family…that we were able to achieve things in good faith. All of this that is happening is for a greater purpose. I am sure of whom I serve, and I am sure that all things will go well.”
The transition that was completed on Dec. 26 included the delivery of documents and other relevant materials. Yankee also agreed to submit monthly reports on all corporate financial and administrative matters.

2025 – Officially Divorced
On February 18, and after three decades of marriage, Daddy Yankee and Mireddys officially completed their divorce process. Judge Eva Soto of the Puerto Rico Court ruled that the divorce occurred due to an “irreparable breakdown.” Both parties agreed to their separation through a virtual hearing.
That same day, Yankee released a visualizer video to his song “En El Desierto.” Backed by urban beats, he powerfully sings: “In the desert I am growing/Despite what I am experiencing, I am still learning/What it means to be patient/I am developing my resistance.”

2025 – The Lawsuit
On March 4, Ayala filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against his ex-wife and her sister for financial mismanagement, defamation, alleged irregularities and negligence in the management of music companies El Cartel Records and Los Cangris. Filed in the Tribunal de Primera Instancia in Carolina, Puerto Rico, the lawsuit amounts to $250 million and accuses the sisters of breach of fiduciary duties, breach of contract and damages.
Ayala claims that after regaining control of his companies, his team discovered irregularities, including the “disappearance” of key documentation related to the companies’ finances and the successful La Última Vuelta Tour. The legal document also states that between Dec. 26 and Dec. 30, just before the completion of the court-ordered administrative transition, the sisters “deleted or removed essential emails related to the operation of the companies and migrated the information to devices that have not been turned over or identified.”
