Becky G Champions Mental Health and Identity at World Mental Health Day Festival
From career milestones to new music releases, the Latin music world continues to evolve with powerful, uplifting moments. This week, the spotlight shone brightly on Becky G, who brought the Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day Festival to a poignant close in New York City. During an intimate conversation moderated by NBC News correspondent Morgan Radford, the Mexican American star reflected on the complexities of growing up in the public eye and the importance of protecting one’s peace.
“The whole concept of being a role model is to model this idea of perfection, and I don’t think that is real at all,” Becky G shared with the audience. “Instead of being a role model, I’ve always felt the responsibility to be a real model, which means I’m not going to have all the answers. I’m not going to get it right every single time.”
Her candid discussion touched on the necessity of therapy, the support of family, and her personal healing journey. “I had to become the person that I needed most, and that’s when Becky G came to be,” she added. This appearance serves as a precursor to her upcoming participation in #Billboard’s Latin Music Week, where she is scheduled for a Superstar Q&A.
Empowering Women in Música Mexicana
Beyond individual advocacy, the industry is seeing a concerted effort to uplift female voices. BMI recently highlighted the importance of fostering community for women in música mexicana through its “Las Compositoras+” song camp. Lilibeth Patron, BMI’s associate director of creative for Latin, noted that the initiative aims to create space for connection and collaboration in a historically male-dominated field.
Led by singer-songwriter Erika Vidrio, the retreat brought together a talented cohort of artists—including Damaris Bojor, Lorena Cabral, Tania Dominguez, Poe Leos, MXKA, Marián Oviedo, Jacqie Rivera, and Adriana Ríos—to develop new music and secure future placements.
Industry Honors and Recognition
The spirit of celebration extends to the Latin Recording Academy, which recently announced its 2026 Leading Ladies of Entertainment honorees. This year’s class recognizes the contributions of María Fernández, Sandra Jiménez, Salomé Limón, and María Rosa García, known as Niña Pastori. These women represent the pinnacle of executive leadership, production, and artistry, and will be celebrated during Latin Grammy Week in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, in the world of broadcast and culture, Lin-Manuel Miranda is set to receive the 2026 iHeartRadio Corazón Latino Award. The honor recognizes his profound impact on Latin music and culture, with the presentation taking place during the iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina at Miami’s Kaseya Center.
