Ela Taubert’s Journey to Winning Latin Grammy’s Best New Artist Award

Bogotá-born singer-songwriter Ela Taubert has quickly risen to prominence, capturing the coveted Best New Artist award at the 2024 Latin Grammys. The night was even more special as she debuted her bilingual collaboration with Joe Jonas, “¿Cómo Pasó?”—a track that has already reached No. 12 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart.

Reflecting on her win, Taubert shared her awe at seeing artists she admires, like Karol G and Sebastian Yatra, cheering her on. “It was surreal,” she told Billboard. “These are people who inspire me, and their recognition pushes me to keep working harder.”

Ela Taubert’s journey began in Bogotá, Colombia, where she was raised in a music-loving family. While she credits her late uncle for her innate musical talent, her inspirations were global icons like Taylor Swift, Adele, and Jesse y Joy. Her mother played a pivotal role in her career, providing unwavering support that allowed Taubert to pursue her passion.

Her early career saw her covering songs that resonated with her soulful, dreamy vocals. A performance of Feid’s “Si Te La Encuentras Por Ahí” went viral on TikTok, earning Feid’s praise and placing her on Billboard’s On the Radar Latin feature. Meanwhile, her rendition of Adele’s “Don’t You Remember” caught the attention of Colombian producer Julio Reyes Copello.

Taubert’s breakthrough came as part of the inaugural class at Universal Music Latin’s Abbey Road Institute & Art House Academy. There, she not only refined her artistry but also formed the creative team that helps shape her music today.

In 2023, Taubert released her debut EP, ¿Quién Dijo Que Era Fácil?, marking the start of a new chapter under Universal Music Latin. The project set the stage for a series of achievements, including opening for Karol G on her Mañana Será Bonito tour and sharing stages with Alejandro Sanz and Diego Torres.

Now based in Miami, Taubert continues to expand her reach. Her collaboration with Joe Jonas began after she messaged him on Instagram, expressing her admiration. To her surprise, he responded, leading to their joint effort on “¿Cómo Pasó?”

Looking ahead, the 24-year-old artist is preparing for her first festival appearances and more live shows. “I feel like each song represents a new chapter,” she said. “There’s a lot of exciting music and surprises coming.”

Taubert’s rise is a testament to her dedication and a reminder of how dreams can unfold in extraordinary ways.
