Karol G Welcomes Summer with Her New Merengue Song ‘Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido’
Karol G is bringing in the summer with new music! On June 20, the Colombian pop star released “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” a lively merengue track recorded in the Dominican Republic.
Before officially dropping the track in collaboration with Coke Studio, Karol gave fans a sneak peek during her show in London. She shared online, “Yesterday I sang a little bit of my new song ‘Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido’ here in London and I don’t know what I loved more… the energy of the people, that I could finally dance it publicly after dancing it alone with my friends, or the flag of the Dominican Republic that you can see in the background .” She expressed her appreciation for the Dominican Republic, a country she feels deeply connected to. Part of her last album, Mañana Será Bonito, was created there, and it’s her go-to place for a break. “Its culture, music, colors, hospitality, energy… everything feels very authentic and special there… Their people have embraced me in a way that fills my heart and inspires me all the time,” she added. “Today this song comes out [and] the video comes out that I also recorded there and that represents the flavor not only of a country, but of our Latin community all over the world… joyful, happy, beautiful, contagious !!!! I can’t wait for you to dance to it too 🇩🇴🇨🇴♥️ TODAY!!!!!”
Directed by Pedro Artola, the new music video shows Karol as a waitress at a small place called Verano Rosa Bar. The video captures her being encouraged to sing karaoke by her co-worker and the bar’s patrons. When she takes the microphone, she wins over the crowd with her new summer hit, produced by herself, Edgar Barrera, and Sky Rompiendo. The video highlights the vibrant Dominican Republic, with scenes of people dancing and enjoying the music. It also showcases flags from various Latin American countries like Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and Nicaragua.
Up next, Karol will continue her European tour with stops in France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, and Spain.
