Boxer Ryan Garcia Sparks Concern After Disturbing Social Media Posts — Here’s the Latest

A year ago boxer Ryan Garcia seemed to be on top of the world. Last year, The Ring magazine ranked him in the top 5 of the best active lightweights in the world. And his career record is a pretty impressive 23-0. But issues in his personal life, like an increasingly bizarre series of social media posts in the last few days have raised major concerns about his mental health. 

First came the announcement, just hours after the birth of his son on January 6th of this year, that he had split from Andrea Celina, the baby’s mother. And everything seemed ok when Garcia confirmed they would co-parent. But on March 3rd, a concerning six-second video was uploaded to his social media account, including a claim that his throat had been slit.

The information from the people close to Garcia paints the picture of someone troubled. Celina said the boxer was “not fine,” adding that he’d been “heavily oppressed” and she was “genuinely concerned.” Meanwhile, British promoter Eddie Hearn also admitted to being concerned about Garcia’s welfare. 

Garcia himself appeared in a video on X (formerly Twitter) to clarify and suggested he had been the victim of sabotage. But a series of increasingly bizarre videos and posts were posted to Garcia’s social media both before and after his explanation video.

“Hey guys, it’s Ryan. I’m coming on here to explain what’s going on,” he says in the video. “I’m not in possession of my phone, I can’t get access to my Instagram. My cards are locked. I’m being really taken advantage [of].”

The boxer goes on to say: “I would personally want to just send out a video to the people that love me and my fans, family that’s concerned that I’m okay. I’m not dead, I believe in Jesus, all those [rumors] are lies.”

Ryan Garcia also added that an unidentified person was trying to put him in jail and that he’d asked for help but hadn’t received it. 

The boxer is set to face Devin Haney on April 20th, in a bid for the WBC super-lightweight title.
