Jennifer Lopez Addresses Ayo Edebiri’s Comments About Her ‘Scam’ Music Career
During a recent interview with Variety, Jennifer Lopez detailed the apology she received from The Bear actress Ayo Edebiri before their Saturday Night Live gig earlier this month. Edebiri was hosting the live show and Lopez was the musical guest.
Edebiri apologized to Lopez for a comment she made during the Scam Goddess podcast in 2020. During Edebiri’s resurfaced interview, she responded to the podcast host’s claim that Lopez’s “whole career is one long scam.”
Edebiri said: “Well, that’s the thing – she thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her. I think she thinks that she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs … A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio.’ Like, ‘J.Lo was busy.’ Doing what? Not singing, obviously.”
Lopez said before SNL began its live broadcast, Edebiri apologized to her in her dressing room.
“She was mortified and very sweet,” Lopez told Variety. “She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things. She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform. She was just like, ‘I’m so f—ing sorry, it was so awful of me.’”
Lopez added: “It’s funny. I’ve heard similar things said about me throughout my career, so it really didn’t affect me.”
During SNL, Edebiri seemingly addressed the resurfaced jokes during a sketch to the surprise of the internet who responded with, “Not Ayo Edebiri addressing her resurfaced jokes about Jennifer Lopez’s whole career being a scam…”
