“King ISO Admits to a Big Lie on “I’m Okay” and Shares the Reason Behind it in New Video”
King ISO’s latest single “I’m Okay” is a powerful reminder of his unique and special talent as a rapper. As the final song from his critically acclaimed debut album, “Get Well Soon,” King ISO continues to champion the importance of mental health and wellness in his music.
“I’m Okay,” which features fellow rapper King Kash, tackles the biggest lie that men often tell themselves and others. The song’s video offers a dual reality, highlighting the inner struggle of those who smile through the day while internally hurting. King ISO recently spoke to AllHipHop about why he felt this song needed visuals and what inspired him to create it.
He revealed, “With the song ‘I’m Okay,’ I felt it was super important to convey the message of all the people who smile through the day while really internally hurting. My best friend Sarah, before she was murdered, inspired me with her poetry when we were just teenagers when an entry she wrote expressed how she wears a mask every day. 20 years later damn near I still do the same and so do many adults/young teens and children. This was something I felt the need to share with my listeners because I know so many feel the same.”
King ISO’s personal experiences have driven his focus on mental health and his willingness to stare at his own personal demons. He has battled with psychiatric illness and homelessness, and has faced his dark side unapologetically. It was his decision to check himself into a mental facility that eventually led him to earn a deal with Strange Music, alongside Tech N9ne.
Despite the acclaim he has received, King ISO remains true to his roots and his mission to spread awareness about mental health. “Get Well Soon” is an open letter to those who are still struggling, and “I’m Okay” is a powerful song that we should all listen to and share. King ISO’s honesty and vulnerability in his music are truly admirable, and his impact on the rap industry cannot be overlooked.
