LISTEN: Rauw Alejandro Teams Up With Daddy Yankee on “Panties y Brasieres”
On Jan. 26, Rauw Alejandro released “Panties y Brasieres,” his newest collaboration with reggaeton pioneer Daddy Yankee and the missing “Track 7” from his latest album, Saturno.
Rauw first premiered the highly-anticipated track during his surprise set at La Fiestas De La Calle De San Sebastian last weekend. The epic collab features Rauw’s modern sound meshed with DY’s old reggaeton staple. It starts with DY’s signature and globally recognized verses accompanied by a hard-hitting bass-heavy reggaeton beat. Rauw’s melodic vocals provide the song with his distinguished touch that he’s commonly known for. Though the song echoes Rauw’s modern reggaeton sound, the tune doesn’t shy from the genre’s traditional elements. Per the press release, the collab samples “Camuflash” stemming from the classic Playero #40, which featured the GOAT reggaetonero.
“Daddy Yankee for me means reggaeton himself,” Rauw told Apple Music 1’s host Zane Lowe about the iconic collaborator. “He was one of the first artists who put that type of genre outside the island, around the world, with his biggest hit, Gasolina.”
He continued: “Even in China [and] Japan, they were dancing to his songs. So it’s like he helped to support and put more big Latin music in the Reggaeton culture. And for me, it means as a Puerto Rican, I feel really, really proud.” He also mentioned how La Cabra is an inspiration for his island.
This release could be Rauw Alejandro and DY’s final collaboration, as DY is preparing for his official retirement. As for El Zorro, his Saturno era is just beginning – he’s embarking on his global Saturno tour alongside the dance group JABBAWOCKEEZ on Mar. 4 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. The tour will stop in major cities like Miami, FL, Brooklyn, NY, Houston, TX, and Inglewood (Los Angeles), CA.
“I’m in love with that album [Saturno] right now. I’m [in] rehearsal for the tour every day. The tour is going [to be] crazy. The tickets are going crazy. Yeah, I’m so excited for this new season of Saturno,” he told Zane Lowe.
