Bad Bunny, Omar Apollo & More Artists Nominated for the 2023 Grammy Awards
On Nov. 15, the 2023 Grammy Award nominations were unveiled. Bad Bunny, Omar Apollo, and Rauw Alejandro were among the Latine stars recognized for next year’s awards by the Recording Academy. Luis Fonsi, Cyndi Lauper, and Smokey Robinson contributed to this year’s announcement.
Overall, Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti garnered Benito three awards. The categories include Album Of The Year; Best Pop Solo Performance for “Moscow Mule;” and Best Musica Urbana Album. Benito’s AOTY nomination marks the Grammy’s first-ever Spanish-language nomination in that category. Previously, Santana’s bilingual album Supernatural won in 2000.
As far as the major Latine categories go, the nominations for Best Música Urbana Album went to Rauw Alejandro’s Trap Cake, Vol. 2, Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti, Daddy Yankee’s Legendaddy, Farruko’s La 167, and Maluma’s The Love & Sex Tape.
The Best Latin Pop Album nominations include Christina Aguilera’s Aguilera, Camilo’s De Adentro Pa Afuera, and Sebastián Yatra’s Dharma+, to name a few. Aguilera was also nominated for the Best Immersive Audio Album.
The Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album nominations include Cimafunk’s El Alimento, Fito Paez’s Los Años Salvajes, Gaby Moreno’s Alegoría, Jorge Drexler’s Tinta y Tiempo, Mon Laferte’s 1940 Carmen, and Rosalía’s MOTOMAMI. The Spanish singer was also nominated for Best Music Film for MOTOMAMI (TikTok Live Performance) and for Best Latin Rock or Alternative for the same album.
Other notable nominations include Chiquis, Christian Nodal, and Natalia Lafourcade for Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano), and Carlos Vives and Marc Anthony for Best Tropical Latin Album.
Two Latine artists got a spot in the Best New Artist category – Anitta and Omar Apollo. Moreover, Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band’s Los Fabulosos was nominated for Best Children’s Album.
Encanto was also nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Score Soundtrack Album for Visual Media. The soundtrack’s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World” was nominated for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording.
Unfortunately, Bad Bunny wasn’t nominated for Song Of The Year or Record Of The Year despite his hits “Tití Me Preguntó” and “Me Porto Bonito” being two of this year’s most streamed songs.
The 65th Grammy Awards ceremony will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA, on Feb. 5, 2023.
