Julieta Venegas Releases “Tu Historia” – Her First Album in 7 Years

Julieta Venegas is officially back! On Nov. 11, the pop-rock indie vocalist released Tu Historia, her first studio album in seven years. Tu Historia was produced by the Chilean singer-songwriter Alex Anwandter and recorded in New York. She also released a new video for the album’s title track.

“I have worked with a lot of heart, seriousness, emotion, and all that is beautiful,” Venegas said in a written press statement. “I am telling you this, because finding accomplices in life is so important, and what has come together with this album has been full of learning experiences and love. I can’t wait for you to hear it.”

In an Instagram post, she further detaileds: “Tu Historia is about taking everything we have lived through, and making it part of us. This album has been a process in itself for me, a portrait, telling these stories, working on it, was a special learning process.” She also thanked Anwandter for being part of it, calling him her “teacher.”

Tu Historia carries seven years of the emblematic singer’s lessons in 10 tracks. She touches on the dangers women face in “Caminar Sola,” as well as gets personal with “La Nostalgia,” a soft acoustic-driven and orchestral ballad and ode to her life in Tijuana.

Other noteworthy tracks include the album’s title track “Tu Historia,” which features her signature accordion as she beautifully sings about accepting and making peace with your past. “En Tu Orilla” shows us a new face of Venegas’ music through a bass-driven upbeat tempo – though she sprinkles her accordion roots on it too.

Overall, Tu Historia brings us the nostalgic sounds of Venegas’ vocals paired with Anwandter’s influences of synth-pop and electronica. It’s a mesh of both artists without losing Venegas’ indie alternative pop sound.

Along with the album release, Venegas also dropped a music video for “Tu Historia,” which fully captures her distinguished sounds as an artist.
