Christina Aguilera to Receive Icon Award at People’s Choice Ceremony
The people have spoken, and singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera is – now more than ever – the epitome of a music icon.
The Grammy-winning artist will be honored with the first-ever “Music Icon” award at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards on December 7. Becky G will present the award to Aguilera at the ceremony.
“She’s a sweet talkin’ sugar-coated Music Icon!” the PCA Instagram reads.
Jen Neal, an executive vice president at NBCUniversal, agreed that referring to Aguilera as the “Voice of a Generation” is something she has earned. “She not only has an extraordinary voice, but as a creator, produces music that evokes true emotion and resonates across so many different demographics,” Neal said in a statement. “Christina is an idol, and we cannot wait to celebrate her successes and present her with the inaugural ‘Music Icon’ award.”
Along with receiving the special recognition, the “Beautiful” singer, who has won five People’s Choice Awards during her career, will grace the stage during the ceremony for only the second time ever. She will perform a medley of some of her most popular songs over the last two decades. The last time Aguilera performed at the ceremony was in 2013 when she received the “People’s Voice” award.
This year, Christina Aguilera teamed up with artists Becky G, Nicki Nicole and Nathy Peluso for her new song ‘Pa’ Mis Muchachas.’ She performed the track with her gal pals at this year’s Latin Grammys. Aguilera is working her way to releasing her first Spanish-language album since 2000. Last month, she told Elle magazine that the upcoming album would be released “in three different chapters” throughout 2022.
The 2021 People’s Choice Awards will air on NBC and E! Tuesday, December 7 at 9 p.m. ET.
