LeBron James & Adele Go Viral Dancing Dominican Dembow
It looks like Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and Grammy Award-winning singer Adele were the life of the party this weekend.
The two were spotted on the dance floor at the wedding of James’ teammate Anthony Davis dancing to Dominican dembow, a fast-paced genre growing in popularity and gaining acceptance within the country’s music scene. This music set at the wedding comes as no surprise as Davis’ new wife, Marlene P, is Dominican-American. As for Adele being in attendance, she is currently in a relationship with Rich Paul, the agent of James and Davis.
DJ Dito Bernard kept the energia high at the reception where James, Adele, and the rest of the guests were dancing to several Dominican tracks, including “El Juidero” by rappers Chimbala and Bulin 47.
The video of them all dancing went viral this weekend as most internet onlookers seemed impressed that such big-name celebrities were dancing to a genre that’s still in relative infancy.
Many are excited about the exposure this moment gives to dembow, with stars like James and Adele partaking in the dances with no hesitation. Dominican dembow enthusiasts have eagerly watched as the sub-genre reaches new heights with the rising fame of El Alfa, and rappers like Rochy RD and Kiko el Crazy “crossing over” and getting recognition from figures like Barack Obama.
Most Dominicans took pride in having their culture and its music receive so much attention. Rochy RD, Kiko El Crazy, and other dembow artists are doing the hard work in the recording studio, and it’s a stand-out moment when getting some love from an NBA champion and world-renowned music artist.
We can’t ignore the fact that Adele was doing those dance moves dressed in a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown designed by Daniel Roseberry. She didn’t even spill a drop of her white wine. Now, that’s what we call un flow bueno.
