Charli D’Amelio Explains Why She Skipped the 2021 Met Gala

Influencers like Addison Rae, Emma Chamberlain, and Dixie D’Amelio made their Met Gala debut on Monday night, but there was one beloved TikToker that was noticeably absent. Dixie’s 17-year-old sister, Charli D’Amelio, was missing in action during fashion’s biggest night out, and many fans couldn’t help but wonder why. Her absence may have come as a surprise to some, but Charli actually explained why she wouldn’t be able to attend the gala days before it actually took place.

Charli explained that while a fake Met Gala seating chart that went viral on social media had her sitting between Kylie Jenner and The Weeknd, she was not invited to the gala because she wasn’t old enough.

During a zoom interview, she told Sirius XM, “The funny thing about this is, I’m actually not old enough to go to the Met Gala. But I have gotten so much hate about that, and I’m like, ‘Guys! I can’t even go!'” When asked about her feelings on sitting beside two of entertainment’s biggest names, she joked, “If that were my seat, I would definitely not be upset about that at all, and I would be happy to go. But sadly, that can’t happen.”

Charli may have missed out on the Met Gala, but she was in good company. Celebs like Selena Gomez, Kylie Jenner, and Zendaya kipped out on the 2021 Met Gala as well.
