How to Describe Comfy Basics Paired With Sequins and Shine? Practical Magic

Call it a glam slam.

In Vogue’s most recent May issue, anoraks, denim, and other day-to-day basics met the flash and dash of sequins in a story we dubbed Practical Magic. Camilla Nickerson styled the story and, in doing so, created a world in which we can joyfully combine the comfy staples we’ve gotten used to wearing—zip-up sweatshirts, tracksuits, or soft joggers—with something more luxe and lavish—bedazzled bodysuits or embellished hoodies. Sequins, diamanté, and additional sparkling silver embellishments are no longer reserved for the holiday season, in fact, this spring’s runways were dotted with shimmering versions of wardrobe essentials, like Givenchy’s tricked out hoodie, Balenciaga’s chainmail cami, and Miu Miu’s embellished collar track jacket. It all suggests that you can dress up those reliable lounge staples. Take your Champion hoodie and layer it with, say, a dreamy crystal fringed top from JW Anderson. All that and more, below.
