The Haim Sisters Show Us What They Wear in a Week
You know the saying “same same but different”? Well, that’s how musicians and sisters Alana, Este, and Danielle Haim describe their approach to fashion. They are part of the same band and they are related, but that doesn’t mean they all dress alike. For starters, as Alana explained while filming Vogue’s video series 7 Days 7 Looks, “A common misconception is that we all live together.” She adds, “I feel like everyone thinks we live together in bunk beds, and we do not. We are three separate people.” This became crystal clear when the trio walked us through a week’s worth of their wardrobes for 7 Days 7 Looks. The Haim sisters all possess an inherent California cool, as well as shared interests, which means that they do have some sartorial similarities. To wit, their affinity for vintage denim and band tees, and the Spice Girls sweatshirts they procured at a reunion concert in London. Each of the Haims has an innate sense of style—even when they’re borrowing and walking in one another’s shoes.
In the new video for Vogue, the Haim sisters’ Monday looks consisted of nearly identical vintage band tees and jeans, but their repertoire during the rest of the week reflected each woman’s individual style. For Friday, Este chose a silver lacy Prada slip dress. “Secretly, or not so secretly, I want to be Carrie Bradshaw,” she declared to the camera. “I feel like this would be a dress she would wear if she may or may not run into Mr. Big on the street while she was still with Aiden. It’s Prada. It’s beautiful.” Danielle, on the other hand, preferred something more low-key and opted for a pair of high-waist A.W.A.K.E. MODE leather pants, a white tank, and a printed Kwaidan Editions button-down worn open. As she said, “When I go out, I don’t really like to wear dresses. I just feel…not really like myself, so I will wear a leather pant.” As for Alana, she tends to prefer a matching skirt set and chose a graphic knit set by Loewe. She notes, “I like a set look. I especially love something that has pockets in it. I just love the energy that this outfit is putting out. I love that I can dance in it. When I can go out, I’m going to want to dance.”
Beyond the sisters’ differences when it comes to dressing, there’s one through line underpinning all of their style: thoughtfulness. None of the Haims chase trends, and there is typically a nostalgic narrative attached to their most cherished pieces. For Danielle, it’s her favorite Celine boots. “I have them in my closet on a pedestal,” she explained in 7 Days 7 Looks. “They’re the last season that Phoebe Philo designed for Celine, and I knew I had to get something of hers before she disappeared.” To close out the week, Alana also shared a story while holding her prized Chanel bag. She said, “We got to go to our first Chanel show, which was such an honor, and while we were there, they gave us Chanel bags. We cried. We’re really not big criers, but when big life moments happen, we get teary.”
