Hunter Schafer’s Latest Red Carpet Look Proves Less Is More
At 21, Euphoria actor Hunter Schafer has cultivated an approach to red carpet dressing that is in a league of its own. Whether she’s in a sweet, lacey Rodarte frock, a sculptural Rick Owens gown with sky-high platforms, or a gingham Charlotte Knowles bodysuit, every ensemble she rocks on the step and repeat is a major fashion vibe. The style chameleon simply doesn’t half-commit to a look, even the more subtle ones.
Schafer’s latest appearance at the 30th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City last night was a fresh switch-up from her usual risk-taking outfits. She proposed a new kind of red carpet glamour that is dazzling, but not particularly showy, slipping into a sleek column gown from Matthew Williams’s debut Givenchy collection. (With jewelry by Darius Jewels and heels by Christian Louboutin.)
The Givenchy dress included a fitted, bustier-style top with straps accenting the shoulders, and around the waist, a hefty hardware belt also featured golden padlocks. These details added just enough visual interest to modernize the classic LBD, but it still felt timeless and appropriate, too. As Schafer proved, sometimes the best fashion statements are the ones that whisper instead of scream. And if this dress could talk, it would whisper, “I’m a winner, baby.”
