Billie Eilish, bonnets, and babydoll dresses: see Gucci’s latest collection
Harry Styles also stars in the model line-up
If you’ve not caught up with Gucci’s just-debuted film series Ouverture of Something That Never Ended, WTF have you been? Running the length of last week as part of the inaugural GucciFest film festival, the Gus Van Sant and Alessandro Michele-directed movie sees Silvia Calderoni take the lead, and offers a glimpse into her life in Rome via seven dreamy vignettes.
With cameos from the likes of Arlo Parks, Florence Welch, Billie Eilish, and longtime house fave Harry Styles, the series offered a momentary escape from the tedium of 2020 and lockdown 2.0 – which is pretty much exactly what we all need right now, no?
Of course, aside from star turns from the aforementioned stratospheric names, there was also a huge number of lewks for viewers to feast their eyes on. With Ouverture… serving as a way for Michele to debut his latest collection while runway shows are off the agenda, the Italian designer dug into his archives and served up an offering full to the brim of Gucci-isms: from babydoll dresses and 70s-style tailoring, to statement coats and playful knitted sweaters and vests.
Elsewhere, Michele upped the ante in celebration of five years at the helm of the revered Italian house, with OTT tulle jumpsuits layered over barely-there lace underwear, chequerboard, chevron, and paisley suits, and understated denim flares and jean shorts paired with collegiate tees. Rounding the whole thing off were GG-emblazoned skateboards, chunky snake and precious metal platforms, and standout bonnets – because bonnetcore forever baby, duh.
