¡El Grito! 2020 Event to Help L.A. Residents Impacted by COVID-19

Latin music acts like Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Ozomatli, and La Santa Cecilia are coming together to help Los Angelenos impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. L.A. City Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez is organizing the virtual telethon ¡El Grito! 2020.

To kickoff Latinx Heritage Month, Councilwoman Rodriguez and the City of Los Angeles will host the ¡El Grito! 2020 on Sept. 15. The virtual telethon will start at 7:00 PM PST. Money raised from the event will go to L.A. citizens most impacted by COVID-19 and will also support the Comunidades Indígenas en Liderazgo (CIELO’s) and the Undocu-Indigenous Fund.

¡El Grito! 2020 will also celebrate Mexican Independence Day a day early. The holiday is usually observed on Sept. 16. The City of Los Angeles will join the Consulate General of Mexico in re-enacting the historic Cry of Dolores and the ringing of the bell, which commemorates the call to arms pronounced by Miguel Hidalgo in 1810 that signaled the start of the Mexican war for independence.

¡El Grito! 2020 will be a night full of music ranging from mariachi and banda to norteño and Latin alternative. Along with Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Ozomatli, and La Santa Cecilia, other Latin music acts that will perform include El Conjunto Nueva Ola, La Victoria, Weapons of Mass Creation, Mariachi Lluvia y Fuego, and more. There’s no better day to catch Los Tucanes’ “La Chona” live than at the start of Latinx Heritage Month.
