5 Stylish Swimwear Trends We’ve Seen Before and Are Back Again
Over the last decade, Vogue has spotlighted all kinds of beachwear in numerous, dream-worthy locales, and a few of these styles are just as relevant today as they were the season the issue hit newsstands. Of all the swimwear trends that have come and gone, these are the handful worth noting this summer. Take the crochet bikini, for example, seen here on Imaan Hammam in Vogue’s June 2017 issue. There’s also a pair of pretty peppy prints from our June 2019 magazine. Both styles are well worth slipping into this summer. Whether you lean into glam or sport, there are suitable options for both. Take your pick between some beach brights (as captured by Angelo Pennetta in September 2019) or the tropical-colored pastel bikinis made for a Miami weekend, per photographer Josh Olins in 2011.
No matter which you choose, you’ll make a stylish splash this summer. Shop these five archive-inspired swimwear trends, below.
Crafty Crochet
From basket bags to handcrafted ready-to-wear, it’s no surprise that the woven trend has knit its way into this season’s swimwear, from Cult Gaia to Tom Ford.
Luxe Lurex
Go tropical in one of these metallic-rinsed pastel one or two-pieces. These sheeny shades seen in the March 2011 issue have resurfaced this summer in soft hues on fabrics that glimmer from brands like Oseree, Isa Boulder, Sara Cristina, and Maiyo.
Prints Please
This summer, take your pick of prints that please; shop Sir’s micro-florals or Fella’s soft abstract patterns in a variety of two-piece silhouettes from strapless to square neck.
Retro Romance
For a nod to the ultra-feminine swim silhouettes of the ’50s, try a strapless or halter top one-piece with a sweetheart neckline—even better if it’s patterned in a vintage print like those from Norma Kamali and Tory Burch.
Surf and Sport
Dive into the beach brights trend with these functional and fashionable swimwear styles. Whether paddling out or laying out, sporty suits from Ookioh to Ansea will have you covered.
